Many of you know Phyllis as our CAM facilitator.
But did you know she has a
deep commitment to excavating powerful personal stories through deep
listening and interviewing? Her work over twenty-five years as a
broadcaster and producer has given her insights into the human experience
in such a way that she uncovers the common threads and pains we all
experience. Understanding our own stories will give us the keys to
accessing others at a deeper level. She writes that we carry our “isms”
inside as a way to maintain separation. That separation creates loneliness,
anxiety, and a cloudy outlook.
We can unlock the context of our own lives by sharing our stories and
witnessing the beauty and possibility of others. Without self-examination
all the chest-thumping ideas for healing racism, sexism and a host of other
divides will mean little. The universe is within the self and the self is anxious to
reveal and share.
